Small Portrait of the island Sark
Surface: approx. 6 km2
Inhabitant: approx. 700
International Kfz characteristic: GBS
Sark consists of "Big Sark" and "Little Sark", which are connected by a narrow burr ("La Coupee") (the transition is, particularly with storm, a genuine adventure!")
Sark has an international Kfz characteristic, but not one car, which carries it. Combustion engines are not certified on Sark (except with some agricultural tractors).
Administration
On Sark the norman feudalistic roots of the channel islands are still most clearly received, even the coat of arms of the island originate from the Norman area. It is identical to the coat of arms of normandy. The Seigneur is formal head, is a chairman of the Chief Pleas (in such a way is called the local Parlament)und appoints the most important officials. A seat in the Chief Pleas one has automatically as an owner of one of the 40 lease reasons on the island. Sark can decide in many local things themselves, has also its own jurisdiction (their next instance Guernsey is) and is own customs territory.
Industry and economics
Sark predominantly lives on the tourism (the island is from Guernsey daily - except Sundays - to reach). The agriculture produces primarily for the local need.
Objects of interest
- La Seignurie (the seat of the Seigneurs, only the garden plants are accessible)
- La Coupee, the close transition between Big Sark and Little Sark
- the Venus pool on Little Sark
- the prison (probably world-wide one of the smallest and usually "uninhabited")
- the church (worth seeing the centuries of old banks with family coats of arms)
