9. Century

First norman establishments on the isle of man; the island is governed by a "King of the Isles" (to its area also the Hebriden to belong).

1098

King Magnus Barefoot of Norway conquers the island, first norman fortifications are established.

1266

The isle of man comes under Scottish sovereignty.

1395

Le Scrope uses for the first time as "King of Man" a seal with the "3 legs of Man".

1405

King Heinrich IV (of England) feoff Sir John Stanley with the IOM; it and its descendant call itself "King of Man".

1504

The title "King of Man" abolished, from now on governs the liege as a "Lord of Man"; ("better a large lord than an insignificant king" read the foreign exchange of this measure).

early 17. Century

Captains of ships those of and after Man drive carry forward the post office of the island against a fee from 1 penny per letter to England and Scotland.

1639

For the first time a post office shipping connection of the island is mentioned: The post office ship between Whitehaven in England and Dublin in Ireland puts on "if necessary" on Man.

1744

A Mr. Seacome in Liverpool is mentioned documentary as Letter agent for post of the isle of Man.

1765

The duke of Atholl, the "Lord of Man", surrenders its feud to the king from England; since that time the English monarchs carry also the title "Lord of Man".
